Disney has set a new benchmark in the entertainment industry by crossing the $5 billion mark in global box office earnings for 2024, the first studio to achieve this feat since the pandemic. With a domestic total of $2.054 billion and an international haul of $3.006 billion, Disney's worldwide box office now stands at an impressive $5.06 billion.

This achievement marks Disney as the only studio projected to reach this milestone in 2024 and signifies the first time any studio has surpassed $5 billion globally since 2019. Remarkably, this is the sixth occasion since 2010 that Disney has exceeded the $5 billion threshold.

Leading the charge for Disney this year is the Pixar sequel ‘Inside Out 2,’ which has grossed $1.699 billion globally, making it the year's top-grossing movie and the highest-earning animated film ever across domestic, international, and global markets. It is closely followed by Marvel's ‘Deadpool & Wolverine,’ which has amassed $1.388 billion worldwide, setting a record as the top R-rated film globally. The recent release of ‘Moana 2’ has also performed well, with current earnings of $719 million.

Other significant releases from Disney this year include ‘Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes’ with $398 million and the unexpected success of ‘Alien: Romulus’ at $351 million globally. Despite a somewhat disappointing start for ‘Mufasa’ this weekend, the year-end outlook remains positive with the holiday season ahead, underscoring Disney’s pivotal role in shaping key cinematic moments this year. Here's to sustained success and momentum across the industry.
