A new TikTok/Instagram viral trend has emerged in light of ‘A Minecraft Movie’ hitting theatres over the weekend.

In theatres, fans are now erupting in pure chaos during the scene in which Jack Black’s character Steve says “chicken jockey” during the ring-fight scene.

Chicken jockeys are the rare appearance of a baby zombie, baby zombified piglin, baby zombie villager, baby husk, or baby drowned riding a chicken (Fandom). This means there is a 0.25% chance for a baby zombie to turn into a chicken jockey in Minecraft.

The film is based on the popular video game Minecraft, and debuted in theaters on April 4, 2025. The film blasted through its opening weekend, beating out 2023s ‘The Super Mario Bros’’ to claim the record for biggest video game film adaptation opening ever. The film brought in $163 million in both the U.S. and Canada, and $313.7 million worldwide, making ‘A Minecraft Movie’ the third-biggest opening of all time for Warner Bros.

The film stars Jack Black, Jason Momoa, Emma Myers, Danielle Brooks, Sebastian Eugene Hansen, and Jennifer Coolidge.

But back to the frenzy… Young fans, predominately teens, are causing the chaos in theatres during the “chicken jockey” sequence; throwing popcorn and drinks, removing and swinging shirts in the air, resulting in a trashed cinema in which movie theatre chains are not happy. Because of this, cinemas in Canada, the USA, and UK employed police ahead of upcoming screenings to combat further damages and disruptions.

Check out the videos below, showcasing the now infamous “chicken jockey” reactions:

Teens have already been escorted out of several theatres and been arrested as a result of the commotion. Many are now buying tickets in response to the “chicken jockey” frenzy, hoping their theatres will experience the same reactions.

Audience participation is encouraged, but not to point of causing mass disruptions and ruining the movie-going experience for other audience members.
