Josh Brolin Says Denis Villeneuve Oscar Snub For ‘Dune: Part Two’ “Makes No Sense”
And he’s right…
The Oscar nominations have been announced and ‘Dune: Part Two’ actor Josh Brolin (Gurney Halleck) has voiced his disappointment over the Academy's decision not to nominate director Denis Villeneuve. Despite the movie receiving five nominations, including for Best Picture, Villeneuve's omission from the best director category has been a major talking point by fans and critics — a repeat of what was seen of Villeneuve's snub for ‘Dune: Part One.’
“Apparently, I’m going to quit acting because Denis Villeneuve didn’t get nominated, and this is just how this thing works. Makes no sense to me. That’s okay. It’s an amazing film. I think it was even better than the first one. But the people who have gotten accolades sure deserve it and happy to be a part of it,” Brolin stated on Instagram (video below).
Brolin also took the opportunity to commend the team behind ‘Dune: Part Two,’ praising those who were acknowledged in categories like cinematography, production design, visual effects, and sound.
The competition for best picture alongside ‘Dune: Part Two’ includes ‘Anora,’ ‘The Brutalist,’ ‘A Complete Unknown,’ ‘Conclave,’ ‘Emilia Pérez,’ ‘I’m Still Here,’ ‘Nickel Boys,’ ‘The Substance,’ and ‘Wicked.’
The 97th Academy Awards are set to be hosted by Conan O’Brien and will be broadcast live from the Dolby Theatre at Ovation Hollywood on ABC and Hulu, starting at 4 p.m. PT / 7 p.m. ET on Sunday, March 2. This continues the earlier start time introduced last year.
