‘Transformers One’ Struggles To Conquer Box Office With ‘Beetlejuice Beetlejuice’ Dominating No. 1 Spot
Paramount and Hasbro Entertainment’s ‘Transformers One’ is the latest film to open worldwide, and was expected to open to $35 million in North America alone. Paramount’s expectations seemed to be far too high, as the film walked away from it’s first weekend with $25 million from 3,978 theaters.
Elsewhere at the box office, ‘Beetlejuice Beetlejuice’ ended the weekend with $26 million from 4,172 locations from its third weekend — remaining on top.
‘Transformers One’ is “the untold origin story of Optimus Prime and Megatron, better known as sworn enemies, but once were friends bonded like brothers who changed the fate of Cybertron forever”
The animated family-friendly film ended the global box office weekend at $39 million — inevitably slowing down on the climb to its second outing. The film cost Hasbro and Paramount $75 million to make.
The voice cast of ‘Transformers One’ includes Chris Hemsworth as Optimus Prime, and Brian Tyree Henry as Megatron, respectively. Additional cast includes Scarlett Johansson, Keegan-Michael Key, Jon Hamm, and Laurence Fishburne headlining. The animated film is directed by Josh Cooley, from a screenplay by Eric Pearson, Andrew Barrer, and Gabriel Ferrari.
The film holds at 88% from critics and 98% from audiences on Rotten Tomatoes.
