David Fincher Developing New ‘Squid Game’ Series At Netflix
Netflix’s hit South Korean series ‘Squid Game’ is returning for season 2 after a lengthy 3-year wait, launching on December 6, 2024. Now, news of a series expansion has been confirmed to be in the works, with David Fincher developing an American-centered version of the show.
This marks Squid Game’s first English-language spin-off.
Fincher has been working with Netflix for a long time, and works include ‘Mindhunter’ and ‘The Killer’ (2023). The filmmaker also served as executive producer for ‘House Of Cards.’
Netflix has been in the works on an English-language movie, but a series was more attractive to the streamer. Not much information is available at this time, but we know that Dennis Kelly (Utopia) is being eyed to write the project.
Fincher’s more alternative work at Netflix ended up a smash hit, executive producing the Emmy-winning animated series ‘Love, Death and Robots’ — a catalogue of independent animated shorts (including fan favorites ‘Pop Squad’ and ‘Zima Blue’).
2021s first season of ‘Squid Game’ still ranks as Netflix’s most popular series. The show also won six Primetime Emmys with 14 nominations.
Even ahead of the long-awaited Season 2 premiere, ‘Squid Game’ has been renewed for a third and final season.
Season 1 of the series included a cast of Lee Jung-jae (returning), Park Hae-soo, Wi Ha-joon, HoYeon Jung (who saw a massive rise to stardom after the series debut), O Yeong-su, Heo Sung-tae, Anupam Tripathi, Kim Joo-ryoung, and Gong Yoo (returning).
