Disney Removes Daisy Ridley ‘Star Wars’ Movie From 2026, ‘Ice Age 6’ Claims Release Date
Disney has made a significant change to its release schedule, pulling the upcoming untitled ‘Star Wars’ film that was set to hit theaters on December 18, 2026. ‘Ice Age 6’ will now take over that slot.
The new ‘Star Wars’ film is to be directed by Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy, and will bring back Daisy Ridley as Rey, following her journey after the events of 2019’s ‘Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker’ (and the entire sequel trilogy).
Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy previously revealed at Star Wars Celebration that the film would follow Rey as she attempts to rebuild the Jedi Order. However, the project has faced multiple setbacks, including the departure of screenwriter Steven Knight earlier this year, after Damon Lindelof and Justin Britt-Gibson also exited the film.

It’s not confirmed if the film will be shelved, but it wouldn’t be the first time Lucasfilm has caused a shakeup. Fans have seen plans for new films from director Patty Jenkins, Marvel producer Kevin Feige, ‘The Last Jedi’ director Rian Johnson, and ‘Game of Thrones’ creators David Benioff and D.B. Weiss announced, only for those projects to quietly disappear without ever moving forward.
The timing of the announcement comes a few days after Simon Kinberg was announced to write a new trilogy of movies that will take place after the sequel trilogy.
Despite the reshuffling, there’s still more ‘Star Wars’ projects on the horizon. The next scheduled film is ‘The Mandalorian and Grogu,’ directed by Jon Favreau, which is set to debut in May 2026. Another untitled ‘Star Wars’ project remains on the calendar for December 17, 2027, keeping the franchise’s future in theaters alive.
