Real-life sisters Kate Mara and Rooney Mara are gearing up to portray on-screen sisters in the upcoming movie ‘Bucking Fastard,’ with Werner Herzog at the helm.

Herzog also pens the screenplay.

The film’s production team includes Ariel Leon Isacovitch and Agnes Chu, along with Andrea Bucko and Emanuele Moretti from Cobalt Sky Motion Picture Group, and Clara Wu Tsai. Filming is scheduled to commence this spring in Ireland and Slovenia.

The narrative centers on Joan and Jean, twin sisters who lead a life on the edges of society, inspired by true events.

This project will mark the first professional collaboration between Kate and Rooney Mara. Rooney, a two-time Oscar nominee, recently starred in the Orion Pictures drama ‘Women Talking,’ directed by Sarah Polley. She is represented by WME, Entertainment 360, and Sloane, Offer, Weber and Dern.

Rooney Mara is best known for her roles in several critically acclaimed films. She received widespread recognition for her portrayal of Lisbeth Salander in David Fincher’s remake of ‘The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo,’ which earned her an Academy Award nomination for Best Actress. Additionally, she has been celebrated for her performances in ‘Carol,’ where she starred opposite Cate Blanchett and earned her a second Oscar nomination — this time for Best Supporting Actress. Rooney Mara is also known for her roles in ‘Her,’ ‘Ain't Them Bodies Saints,’ and ‘The Social Network.’

Kate Mara gained significant recognition for her role as reporter Zoe Barnes in the political drama series ‘House of Cards,’ which aired on Netflix. In addition to this, she has appeared in movies like ‘Brokeback Mountain,’ ‘The Martian,’ and ‘Fantastic Four,’ where she played Sue Storm.
