The controversy continues…

Following the perceived oversight by the Academy regarding Denis Villeneuve's latest sci-fi epic, ‘Dune: Part Two,’ which has garnered only 5 nominations at this year's Oscars, has caused anonymous Oscar voters to speak out on their “f*c” ups.

"I voted for the first part in almost every category last time. How has Denis not won four Oscars already?" one voter expressed to Variety, puzzled by the omission. "I don’t understand how the studio and, quite frankly, us Oscar voters fuck this up so bad?"

Echoing the sentiment, another voter remarked, "I don’t know how Dune wasn’t nominated for every category… and I hate sci-fi."

While ‘Dune: Part Two’ secured a Best Picture nomination, Villeneuve was notably absent from the Best Director category. The film was only nominated in four other categories including; Best Sound, Best Visual Effects, Best Production Design, and Best Cinematography, starkly fewer than the highly problematic film among critics and the public alike, ‘Emilia Pérez,’ which received 13 nominations.

Many expected ‘Dune: Part Two’ to follow the likes of ‘Return of the King’ in Oscar noms, including ‘Dune’ actor Josh Brolin, who had previously stated he would 'retire' from acting if Villeneuve didn't receive a Best Director nod.

Brolin declared, "Apparently, I am going to quit acting because Denis Villeneuve didn’t get nominated. This is just how this thing works. It makes no sense to me. That’s okay. [Editor] Joe Walker and Denis, you deserve it. It’s an amazing film. It was even better than the first one. The people who have gotten accolades surely deserve it. Happy to be a part of it. Congrats everyone."

The 97th Academy Awards are scheduled for March 2, 2025.
